PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Florida--New York Air National Guardsmen from the 106th Rescue Wing watch as Space Shuttle Atlantis blasts into orbit on May 14, as one of the unit's HH-60 Pavehawk's stands ready to launch if a rescue effort is needed.
The 106th Rescue Wing supported a Space Shuttle misson for the d107th time on May 14 as Mission STS-132 took off for the International Space Station. The Wing's 101st, 102nd and 103rd Rescue Squadrons each provided different assets to support the Space Shuttle Recovery Program which, in the case of a evacuation by the space shuttle crew, they would have been availble to rescue the astronauts.
